Although learning the art of lace knitting from this book is like sitting at the foot of an expert knitter, and there is the thrill and excitement of discovering the beauty of this technique, the student must be prepared to overlook certain idiosyncrasies, some inaccuracies, and lack of certain details from the author that a beginner would probably find daunting, unless a helpful experienced knitter was close at hand. However, Ms. Carter's precise condensation of the seven basic patterns are presented in a logical progression, followed by the methods of combining these elements into more complex designs. Instructions for three completed projects are included. (A note: Some of the symbols used by Ms. Carter are directly the opposite of Barbara Walker's; the clarity of the instructions, I'm afraid, also pales somewhat in comparison to those of Walker.)
