Discover Color in Textiles
PieceWork’s March/April 2011 issue is devoted to color in textiles from the red fabrics found in Tutankhamen’s tomb to Japan’s striking indigo-dyed fabrics re-enforced and/or embellished with stitching. And there’s a lot of “eye candy” glorious photographs of some of the colorful materials that we use in our own creative endeavors! Projects in this issue include socks and wrist warmers to knit; redwork, Berlin work, sashiko, and “Festival Flowers” to stitch; and a looped string bag based on traditional bags from New Guinea. Each of the articles illustrates why color has been a major factor in the long history of textiles. Welcome to our celebration of colorful textiles!
