A World of Ideas

A World of Ideas

When you’re a weaver, inspiration can come from just about anywhere. Sometimes it’s a walk through the great outdoors, other times it might come from a great work of art, a piece of music, or a simple everyday encounter. No matter the path a weaver takes from inspiration to implementation, every masterpiece starts as an inspired idea. This issue of Handwoven is dedicated to those very ideas and how to go from concept to cloth.

You’ll read about designers who drew inspiration from problem solving, music, photographs, and more. Tom Knisely tells the story of an ongoing question about threading log cabin, and then finding the answer when he wasn’t really looking for it. Deanna Deeds went from one weaving experience to the next in working toward designing her Plaid Windows Blouse. Donna Wildearth pays homage to the California quail in her scarf, and Jenny Sennott reminisces about the Florida beach while designing her towels.

The 12 projects in this issue cover a wide range of weave structures including doubleweave, shadow weave, and more. Plus, two of the projects were designed for rigid-heddle looms! Become inspired to start your next project with the May/June 2018 issue of Handwoven!
