A Knitted Lace Tradition from Estonia
A glorious, coffee-table size book of knitted
lace, Estonia and a binding love between the two. Not a simple pattern
book, and certainly not a project book, but a time capsule into a far
off world where the soul of a people is captured in the hands that guide
the needles to create the indigenous patterns of a rich heritage. The
photography capturing this world is rich and the drawings and charts
make the techniques and patterns close to a hands-on learning
experience.

This is a stunningly beautiful book, which is an excellent complement to the Nancy Bush book. Filled with gorgeous photos of ethereal lace, and of beautiful Haapsalu, with shawls modelled by real people including local celebrities, it is worthy of a place on your coffee table and not just in your knitting library. But it is packed full of lace patterns, each illustrated with a clear photograph, including dozens of stitch patterns and also several patterns for full shawls including historical shawls and more recent patterns. Useful tips on constructing the shawl, knitting the borders, and tools and materials complete the generous offering. This book seems expensive but it is worth every penny!
