Unexpected Knitting

Some books are landmarks in knitting. Kaffe Fassett wrote some. Mary Thomas wrote some. Elizabeth Zimmerman wrote some. Debbie New's book on "free-form" knitting will place her in this company. This is a guide for any adventurous knitter into new regions of knitting, both for garments and free art. The areas of free form knitting that this author has used, and inspired others to explore, go far beyond the current interest in patchwork knitting and odd shaping. The book is divided up into nine galleries and expositions of different types of totally new knitting study. Words are just not able to describe some of the topologically advanced, 3D assembly ideas and the brand new use of the knit plane. Techniques that are not necessarily new — but never presented in such a scale as this big, advanced book — will inspire. Just studying the ouroboros section will change your mind about traditional, one-row-at-a-time knitting.
