The new issue of Simply Knitting is on sale now, and as summer comes to a close, it’s time to get ready for the cooler weather to come. Let’s start knitting cosy garments, chic accessories and perfect modern patchwork. Don’t miss Alan Dart’s classic Silent Movie Mice!
The leaves are changing colour and the kids are going back to school. It can only mean one thing – autumn is on its way. But we knitters don’t mind, we’ve got plenty of yummy things to knit to make up for it. If you aren’t quite ready to let go of summer, why not knit up a pastel top in soft mohair? The flower motif certainly  lifts our spirits on a grey day!
Or if you feel like knitting something simpler, cast-on our flattering short-sleeved cardi. Simple stocking stitch is partnered with basic lace for a classic look. But when it’s really chilly, nothing will compare to a snuggly quilt-effect gilet. Choose a bright shade like ours or opt for muted tones if you want something safer.
We haven’t forgotten the little ones, our stripy jumper will look great on your kiddies and is timeless enough to last. With the new season, how about giving your home a bit of a facelift? We’ve got just the thing. This month’s collection of patchwork pretties are a modern take on a classic technique. Whip up a few squares wherever you are and you’ll soon have plenty of accessories to snazz up the living room.

If you’re in the mood for something smaller, get stuck in with a couple of accessories. You’ll be in need of some cosy bits and bobs all too soon, so make a head start with a simple but effective striped hat, or a snuggly lace cowl. Don’t forget about your feet! We’ve got a funky Fair Isle pair of socks for ladies, or a subtle ribbed set for chaps, so everyone’s happy!
