Independence Day
This month we’re celebrating hand-dyed yarns. Jon Dunn-Ballam of
Easyknits, Linda Lencovic of Kettle Yarn Co and Tabetha Hedrick of
SweetGeorgia have all designed accessories to show off their yarns,
while Knitting’s regular designers have created patterns to present The
Knitting Goddess, The Wool Kitchen, Hedgehog Fibres, The Fibre Co, Eden
Cottage Yarns, Wool Couture and Hey Mama Wolf. You can meet some of the
fantastic dyers behind these yarns and learn about their techniques and
inspiration. This issue is also devoted to colour – bright, bold and
beautiful – and who better to ask about the wonders of working with
colour than artist, designer and knitter Kaffe Fassett, who has devoted
the past 50 years of his life to creating strikingly colourful textile
art. Read all about him and knit his intarsia kimono Porcelain in Rowan Handknit Cotton. Plus, if you love knitting for babies, look no further than our Summer Baby Knits supplement,
free with this issue. We’ve got eight super-cute designs, plus tips on
how to use your knitting to help babies in need. So go crazy for the
wonderful wealth of colours available from independent dyers these days
with the July issue of Knitting, out now!
